“Birth is an opportunity to transcend. To rise above what we are accustomed to, reach deeper inside ourselves than we are familiar with, and to see not only what we are truly made of, but the strength we can access in and through birth.” – Marcie Macari

I am privileged to support families living in the Greater Vancouver area, including Vancouver (North, East, South & West), Burnaby, Coquitlam, Port Moody, New Westminster & Squamish.

What to expect

Prenatal

The first of our three prenatal appointments is all about getting to know you and your partner. I will listen to your desires, expectations, and preferences for your birth, as well as ask questions to help me discover your unique needs and how best to support your journey. Together we will uncover your intention for your birth and create a plan that will guide us towards achieving that outcome. In our second visit, we will focus on a comprehensive overview of the labour and birthing process, including how to discern early signs and symptoms of labour, knowing when to call me and feeling confident and well equipped for the experience. In the third visit we will focus on creating a postpartum plan so you feel prepared and resourced for the first weeks of your postpartum period! In addition to these prenatal visits, we will schedule monthly Connection Calls from time of hire, which will then transition to weekly checks in from 39 weeks until birth. This allows us to build our relationship over the course of your pregnancy and gives us plenty of opportunity to discuss any updates, questions you may have, or work through any challenging emotions that arise in response to the physical and hormonal changes in your body. I will be available to you by phone, text or email any time in this prenatal period to answer questions, connect with you, or simply provide reassurance and support.

Labour

You will call to let me know when you first begin to notice signs that your body is getting ready. In this early period I will drop off the TENS and demonstrate how to use it so you have it available if needed. We will stay connected by phone, and you can update me with any progress or reach out for reassurance. Once you are ready for in person support I will come to your home or meet you at your chosen birth location. Based on our previous conversations I will offer a variety of physical and emotional comforts measures, such as hip squeezes, massage, acupressure, verbal affirmations, guided meditation, and more. As you move deeper into the process I will help remind you of your birthing choices and support you in communicating these choices to your care providers and staff. While I do not speak on your behalf, I will always advocate for your needs in all ways and strive to maintain the sacredness of the space you are in for a smooth and supported birth experience. Once you have birthed your baby I am there to assist with first latch and early breast/chest feeding, and will remain until you feel ready to snuggle up and bond as a new family.

Postpartum

Those first few weeks of the postpartum period is such a delicate time for families. Having support can make a huge impact on how you transition as a newly birthed parent, whether this is your first birth or second, third, etc. I will make 1-2 in person visits, the first of which we will connect and process your birth experience, address any concerns or fears that arise around parenting or infant care, or you can simply take a nap while I care for baby. I bring with me your care package in this visit that includes an herbal blend for sitz baths and peri bottles, along with a nutritious meal to nourish your newly postpartum body along with the rest of your expanded family. In our subsequent visit, if needed - I will provide infant care for sleep support, light housework, meal preparation, and simply be a listening ear and gentle presence that stands alongside you during this immense transition. Other ways I can provide care are by assisting with feeding options, general infant questions, referrals to community resources, sibling support or other household tasks that need attending to while you soak up the precious newborn moments.

For stand alone postpartum packages, we begin by connecting for a one hour phone call where I can determine your needs and create a care plan tailored to you specifically. Each family is unique and benefits from something a little different, so its important to me to discover how I can help you thrive and feel completely supported during your transition.
